The same canvas framing included in our normal artistic service is also available for enlarging your photos without or with little modification, usually at a discount on normal prices. Please ask for a free no obligation quote. We can brighten up pictures, making them more vibrant than the original, and correct perspective and alignment, so that buildings and scenery look straight.

We use stretcher frames to create our canvas art. Stretcher frames are not completely fixed together in the corners, although they are tight fitting. This allows the insertion of wedges which push out the frame sides into the canvas. A properly stretched canvas should be like a drum when you tap it with you fingers. A canvas will naturally sag over time as it will expand and shrink with temperature and humidity, so in a few years you can gently tap the wedges yourself to make your canvas tight again. It's easy! |
|
The canvas is stretched over the frame with special pliers and then carefully stapled. The wedges are then inserted to correctly tension the canvas. |

You will need to choose how you wish your frame sides to appear. There are 3 options. This shows clear unprinted sides. This would perhaps make sense for an image like the pencil style woman holding a baby in the examples. Where a crisp edge is required, as in this example, it is only available on small frames. This is because when the canvas is stretched over the frame, it becomes increasingly difficult to align the canvas with the frame edge with larger frame sizes. The material subtly contracts when the protective veneer is applied. Stretching the canvas over the frame reverses this, but it can be difficult to get a neat edge. |
|
This shows printed sides. In this example, the original image is fully on the front face. The sides have been created by mirroring the front, so that you don't loose any of your desired image around the side. This is a little more work, but it is done for free. In general, it produces a more handsome result and you are encouraged to choose this over clear sides where appropriate. |
|
This shows a coloured border which extends over the sides. The colour is your choice. It leaves a nice space for any message you may like to add, under the image. |
|
This shows the 2 frame depths we offer. Consider where the picture is going to hang. If it's in a hallway, maybe go for the 20mm deep frame so that it looks less obtrusive. If it's in your living room, the 40mm deep frame will give the picture more presence. |
To protect your canvas, we apply a thick coating of museum grade giclee veneer. Find out more about our choice of Canvas Art Veneer. The veneer does three things:
- The veneer physically protects the image. Canvases are generally printed with large ink-jet printers. Because the ink is applied thickly, it doesn't all get absorbed into the canvas. This means that with an unprotected canvas, the ink can be knocked off by accidental abrasion. This is surprising easy to do. Applying the veneer, creates a tough cover. Some of our cheaper competitors do not apply a veneer. If they are honest, they will at least say clean with a feather duster, indicating the general feebleness of the end product. With a quality veneer, you can clean with a wet paper towel, making your artwork life-proof.
- The veneer protects the ink from the elements. This enables the image to retain its vitality for longer, meaning it will fade much less. A combination of quality canvas, original HP 12 colour inks and the veneer should mean your image will last a number of generations. Find out more about our HP inks.
- The veneer gives a quality luster to the image, subtly bringing it to life. We use a mix of matt and gloss veneers, meaning it isn't too shiny but still has an exciting look. If you decide to go with one of our competitors, fair enough, but choose one that uses quality veneer, quality canvas and original inks.
